Virtual Exhibition
SACRED   STONES

The book SACRED STONES by Gene Kangas was inspired by environmental stone carvings located near his Ohio home, and because of his decades long studies of art created by artists lacking any formal education. The ensuing two years of global travel via the Internet resulted in a selection of nearly 1,000 photographs of ancient to contemporary stone sculptures from about fifty countries submitted by over ninety professional and amateur photographers.

SACRED STONES, the book and this Virtual Exhibition, are a visually diverse survey focusing on exciting and unusual sculptural stone monuments created throughout time, as intriguing memorial expressions by the living. The black and white photos are amazing images including touching markers for individuals and monumental public artworks fashioned from enduring stones. Precious stone pets to awesome pyramids represent the vast diversity and similarity of thinking cultures and beliefs held through time.

Works included in this Virtual Exhibition are the work of photographers Larry DeRolf, Kenneth Fadeley, Steve Gall, Gene Kangas, Jacob Reeves, and Samantha Reeves, whose works are also illustrated in SACRED STONES, the book.
