American & International
FOLK ART & ANTIQUES
For Sale

CREEKSIDE offers the opportunity to acquire folk art and antiques with the assurance of decades of hands-on study and collecting. We have always researched, published, and collected two and three dimensional historic and contemporary international folk art with an art-based sensibility.

Our personal collection confronts the issue that North American folk art and artists have too long been regarded as individual phenomena and have not been considered as part of a larger social, cultural, or world context. By developing an overall historical perspective of the artists and their works, we began to understand their special heritages, whether African, English, French, German, Italian, or other which often remained apparent long after they became North American citizens. And, we reached out to discover the folk arts within other countries. Folk art has an important, although, underdeveloped place in the study of art history. As an art of the people, by the people, and for the people, it provides an honest, direct insight into prevailing attitudes and ideas of each era in each culture.

Some of the CREEKSIDE folk art selections are from our personal collection and through the years were featured in articles, books, exhibitions, and exhibition catalogs. The offering is diverse and changing: quilts, bed rugs, whirligigs, figural and animal carvings, paintings, drawings and calligraphy by known and unidentified makers.

From time to time select additions will be made from our collection and other private collections. Shipping not included in prices. What is on your Wish List?
