Frank Schmidt Canada Goose w/Keel
Canada Goose with Unusual Keel by Frank Schmidt (1897-1960), Detroit, Michigan. Circa 1940-50s. Solid wood body and head in very good condition. Several tight checks along back; bill repair. V-carving behind neck, carved wings and tail feathers; nicely formed head with glass eyes. Old paint worn mostly to bare wood; but paint remaining is tight and solid. Frank carved out an interesting wide channel on underside of bird - inside of which he affixed his weighted keel. Very nicely done! Email us for more photo views.

Frank Schmidt Redhead
Redhead drake by Frank Schmidt (1897-1960) Detroit, Michigan. Circa 1940-50s. Solid wood body and head in very good condition with just one tight check on back; carved wings, glass eyes. Original wood keel with cast lead weight attached. Worn old paint possibly worn to original in some areas. Frank and his younger brother Ben worked together for a number of years making birds commercially. While Ben developed his skills as a craftsman and has received more recognition, Frank too produced a very similar and efficient decoy. Email us for more photo views.

Black Duck by John Sharon (b 1921) Oregon, Ohio. Circa mid-twentieth century.
Cork body with high set wood head; really good original condition and paint;
all original rigging (keel and line attached). Glass eyes. Sharon hunted the
treacherous mud flats far out in the Maumee Bay. He was a layout shooter and

remember in the 1950s. They were part of a collection of ducks
and swans displayed by my Aunt Mildred at her southern New Jersey
farm house. My Quaker aunt was a design consultant for a large
Philadelphia department store and had an eye for primitive art and
furnishings."

Long Island Red-Breasted Merganser SOLD
Late 19th century Red-Breasted Merganser. Unidentified Maker.
A fine old primitive decoy with a strong sculptural aspect. Coloring
is rich and warm showing some traces of old paint; wonderful patina to
the wood; lots of weathered detail...really classic folk appeal.
The head is attached in the traditional manner with a long iron spike;
head positionable to the left and right but is quite secure. Overall
